    Today's Order: FreeFoods NYC

    The Order:

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret about why I love ordering SeamlessWeb for Pick Up: It's about freedom. No longer are you constrained by delivery areas or delivery minimums. Any restaurant you can get to is a restaurant you can order from. Today, that restaurant was FreeFoods NYC, a place, wait for it, that does not deliver to SeamlessWeb HQ. I wanted something different, something fresh, and something healthy. A success on all three counts. AnnMarie and I perused the Daily and Weekly Specials (a SeamlessWeb feature that we were happy to see used to full effect) and both picked one. She opted for the Seasonal Sandwich, a banh mi (so hot right now), while I went for a half-pound of Orecchiette Pasta, along with a cup of the always available Chipotle Spiced Sweet Potato Soup.

    The Meal:

I had a nice stroll to and from the restaurant and admit that I felt a little smug satisfaction skipping the long line and grabbing my food to go (although they should make it a little more clear where to pick up orders). Once back at HQ, AnnMarie and I dug into our meals. I started with the soup and it was simply excellent. Sweet potato soup is one of my favorites, and I really liked what FreeFoods did with the extra kick from the spicy chipotle and lime cream flavors, along with the different texture of the blue corn tortilla chips. I dipped the bowl clean with the sourdough bread that came with the soup. The orecchiette was a good pasta salad dish with stellar ingredients (goat cheese sauce, prosciutto, baby carrots, and some sort of purple broccoli), but overall it was a bit too creamy for my tastes.

Soup and (Pasta) Salad comboThe bahn mi is traditionally known for being a cheap sandwich, but that ain't the case here. However, you're paying for quality at FreeFoods, and the quality is top notch. AnnMarie, showing again her love of sandwiches, gave this one high marks all around for the well-planned combination of textures, sweetness, and spiciness among the ingredients, which ranged from Vietnamese marinated chicken to pickled carrots. Of course, the fact that it was all served on a Sullivan Street Bakery baguette definitely  played a key role in her enjoyment too. Never forget the importance of bread on a sandwich!

Quite the attractive sandwich, wouldn't you say?FreeFoods NYC offers high quality organic ingredients and a wide variety of creative dishes that change with what's fresh. In addition, they have an extensive vegetarian, vegan, and even raw menu. If that sounds like something you might be interested in, know that you will have to pay the price (good food doesn't always come cheap), but it's worth it.

FYI - We're located near Bryant Park in case you want to try FreeFoods NYC for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders!

    SeamlessWebber of the Week: Ricky

Every Thursday, a different SeamlessWeb customer tells us all about how he or she orders from the site. If you pay close attention here you just might learn something. This week we have Ricky, a gallery worker who likes his food fried and his coffee Colombian.

    Name: Ricky

    Age: 26

Occupation: Art gallery loafer, sometimes worker

How and When Did You Discover SeamlessWeb? I tried other online food ordering websites, but when a former co-worker enlightened me to the wonder that is SeamlessWeb, I never looked back.

Where Do You Use SW? At the office, at home, any place where I have an address, a computer (Ed: Or a phone.) and real hunger.

Favorite Kind of Food: Everything fried and any combination of cheese, chicken, bread...oh, and milk shakes.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Fruits and vegetables; basically anything that looks like how it came out of the ground.

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? Jackson Hole: Depending on the day, I'll get chicken fingers from the 91st street location or a burger and fries from 83rd street. They only serve Pepsi, though, so it's a downer on that front. (Ed: DC for life.)

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? Having to speak to strangers. In fact, my favorite part about SeamlessWeb is that my friend Sarah can just go onto my account and order lunch for me every day and I don't have to worry about it.

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? Perez Hilton tried to Larry Craig me in the bathroom at Misshapes.

Favorite Celebrity Chef? Guy Fieri, even after he sold out to TGI Friday's.

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? I used to watch a lot of Smurfs. (Ed: That's back to back Smurfs lovers...)

What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? Laser vision that could make a whole chicken extra-crispy in three minutes flat. (Ed: I just had an image of this and I know that you wish you had said three seconds flat. Imagine training your eyes on a whole chicken for three minutes straight without being able to eat it. Come on, try it. It's impossible.)

In the Past Year, What's the Latest You've Stayed Up and Why? 100% pure Colombian...coffee. Is it still late if it's two days later?

Plans for Tonight? See previous answer.

Today's Order: Berger's on the Go

Good old-fashioned Jewish deli sandwichesThe Order:

AnnMarie's got a thing for sandwiches, and when she gets it in her mind that she wants one, there ain't no holding her back. Today's sandwich of choice was a Reuben, so of course our restaurant of choice had to be a Jewish deli. And since I've always had a soft spot for Berger's on the Go (Berger is my last name, but no relation), our choice was easy. Now a Reuben is traditionally made with corned beef, but Berger's offers their diners pastrami as another option, and AnnMarie took them up on it. Meanwhile, I went for a classic corned beef sandwich on rye, one that they call "New York's Best."

    The Meal:

The food came incredibly fast and our eyes lit up when we saw the mountains of sliced meat piled up on the warm, soft bread. I was also excited when I saw the high quality spicy mustard that came with my sandwich, the perfect condiment complement. Then I dug in. The corned beef was moist and full of flavor, exactly what I wanted from my sandwich. High marks all around.

Seriously, that mustard was great.AnnMarie had high expectations of course and she was not disappointed. Her sandwich was perfectly prepared, filling, and not too salty. Sometimes pastrami can get a little out of control, but this was well-seasoned. Finally, the bread was excellent, and she's Polish, so she knows her rye.

Grilled to perfection. All in all, Berger's on the Go was everything and more than we could have asked for from a Jewish deli. Next time, we get that craving, we know where to turn!

FYI - We're located near Bryant Park in case you want to try Berger's on the Go for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders!

    SeamlessWebber of the Week: Dominique

Every Thursday, a different SeamlessWeb customer tells us all about how he or she orders from the site. If you pay close attention here you just might learn something. This week, we have Dominique, a multi-talented entertainer who is nothing if not a lady.

    Name: Dominique

    Age: I'm a lady! (but early 20s)

Occupation: Actress, Singer, Violinist, Dancer, Model, Writer

How and When Did You Discover SeamlessWeb? I'd seen SeamlessWeb on plastic delivery bags and glanced at the site, but my ex was the one who got me using it all the time about two years ago. As soon as I realized I didn't have to struggle with people on the phone, I was hooked.

Where Do You Use SW? At home, at friends' houses, wherever there's a computer and we're hungry!

Favorite Kind of Food: I have so many: I love steak, pasta, sushi, French, Indian, seafood...basically almost anything cooked well.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Mexican. Although I made an exception for Crema and it was fantastic.

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? I adore Li Hua, a lovely little Korean place in upper Chinatown. They also have really cheap cocktails. L'Annam in Gramercy is also great, but they don't deliver down to me. :(

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? People who don't speak English or are rude. I kind of expect a basic level of civility if I'm trying to pay you.

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? Last year I read on Grub Street that a guy was using Craigslist to find a date to go to Momofuku Ko. This was when it first opened and was absolutely impossible to get into. So I sent him the link to my restaurant blog, Dominique Eats Out, some stuff about myself, and a picture, and he ended up picking me over 200 other women. Grub Street followed our story and even linked to our posts about the dinner afterward. I got a lot of hits that week!

Also, recently I was in an online video for Malibu.

Favorite Celebrity Chef? Probably David Chang. He just doesn't care what anyone thinks and his food makes me almost not care if I get fat! Tom Colicchio is pretty awesome and I would love to meet Eric Ripert. He sounds like he'd be really cool.

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? I wasn't allowed to watch TV except when I could sneak away from my mom at other kids' houses...I think I only ever got to see The Smurfs.

What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? I want to be a shapeshifter/chameleon like Mystique. (I also want to be as hot as Rebecca Romijn. Can't believe she's married to that comparative schlub Jerry O'Connell.)

In the Past Year, What's the Latest You've Stayed Up and Why? I was up until 11 AM one day last week playing poker. I've been trying to qualify for the upcoming World Series of Poker. I only started playing 6 months ago. I'm pretty good, but I have to beat 800,000 people in 4 rounds to get a seat! So far, I've come in 2nd in the 3rd round.

Plans for Tonight? I think my friend is coming over. If we don't cook, we'll probably order online from Seamless. :)

    Today's Order: Roomali

Despite what the bag says, this was Indian foodThe Order:

I am a Kati Roll fanatic, but their Midtown location isn't on SeamlessWeb...yet. The solution? Roomali. Like you, I was skeptical at first. How could I cheat on Kati? How could AnnMarie's first experience with this wonderful food be somewhere else? Difficult questions, but there was a simple answer: officially, Roomali serves "Roti Rolls." They may be basically the same thing, but I'm going to say that the name makes a difference. With that settled, we ordered two rolls each, Chicken Tikka and Paneer Tikka for me, along with Chicken Malai and Chana Pakora for AnnMarie. We also took advantage of our new eco-friendly ordering option and opted out of utensils and extra packaging.

    The Meal:

Right after placing the order I noticed that delivery time was 60-75 minutes. Note to users: Pay closer attention to this number when placing your own orders. Lucky for us, the food actually arrived in about 45 minutes and it came in packaging that was about as spartan as possible. Perfect. Less perfect was that the rolls were pretty greasy and not that warm. However, we have a microwave and plates in the office, so we were able to give the rolls a fair shake. I preferred the Chicken Tikka to the Paneer Tikka, which is the opposite of my feeling at Kati Roll. This chicken was simply more filling and flavorful.

Double the Tikka, double the funAnnMarie also preferred her chicken roll, but it wasn't just a meat thing. It's about flavor and the Chana Pakora was a little bland. But on the whole, AnnMarie thought that this was a wonderful introduction to the world of Indian street food, and she can't wait to try Kati Roll.

Things got a little messy here, but still tastyAfter our order, we would definitely recommend Roomali if you're looking for something outside the ordinary. Two rolls should fill you up and fill you up right. And until Kati Roll starts delivering in Midtown, it's Roomali for me on a rainy day.

FYI - We're located near Bryant Park in case you want to try Roomali for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders!

    SeamlessWebber of the Week: Evan

Every Thursday, a different SeamlessWeb customer tells us all about how he or she uses the site. If you pay close attention here you just might learn something. This week we have Evan, someone who understands that SeamlessWeb is perfect for holiday dinners.

    Name: Evan (@EAS211 on Twitter)

    Age: 26

    Occupation: Communications and The Law

How and When Did You Discover SeamlessWeb? I discovered SeamlessWeb in early 2008 when I kept bumping into deliverymen with SeamlessWeb bags. I thought it was some new trendy restaurant, but quickly learned its extraordinary convenience. This past holiday season, I actually convinced my family to forgo our traditional Christmas Eve dinner out in favor of SeamlessWeb and a movie.

Where Do You Use SW? I use it from home, or when really hungry, I have food delivered to the bar I frequent.

Favorite Kind of Food: I couldn't pick a favorite, but top four are French, Chinese, Japanese, and seafood.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Mongolian. Let's just say that the one time I tried it, I realized that some things were never meant to be eaten.

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? They remember you. I used to order from a sushi place all the time and one time they thought they put me on hold and began yelling, announcing to the staff that "salmon maki boy" was ordering again.

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? Lenny's (they have the best sandwich in NY, the Jimmy T), Shun Lee (amazing Peking Duck and great dim sum).

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? I once received an unsolicited email from a Nigerian prince asking me to help him retrieve his fortune. Long story short, I did help him and he was so grateful, he gave me 25% of it! I never knew so many money-making opportunities lay in my spam filter. (Ed: SeamlessWeb does not endorse giving money to Nigerian princes.)

Favorite Celebrity Chef? I don't have any favorites, as most are overrated. I prefer to think of myself as my favorite celebrity chef, sans the celebrity part.

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? Robotech. My oldest brother had all of the episodes on tape and we would watch them all the time.

In the Past Year, What's the Latest You've Stayed Up and Why? I've pulled several all-nighters recently, mostly because of a good book and there have been some nights that I begged the sun for a few more moments of moonlight.

Plans for Tonight? Gearing up for a hockey tournament I am playing in this weekend by going out to dinner and then having a few drinks with friends (not to mention taking bets on how many teeth I will lose in the tournament).

    Today's Order: Tina's

    The Order:

Cuba Si, Yankee No. For today's order, AnnMarie put her foot down. Come hell or high water, she was getting a Cubano sandwich for lunch. The only issue was from where. There were two choices: Tina's and Sophie's. Turns out that they used to be the same thing. And since they still have the same menu and Tina's is slightly closer, the choice was easy. AnnMarie ordered her Cubano, while I opted for the Roast Pork Special with rice and sweet plantains as my two sides. I wanted beans too, but I also wanted to still be able to walk after lunch.

    The Meal:

The food arrived in about 10 minutes, piping hot and with plenty of green sauce. AnnMarie got everything she wanted and more with her sandwich. Packed with meat and very filling, her Cubano even managed not to be messy! It immediately reached "order again" status.

Bigger and juicier than it looks, reallyRoast pork is definitely a hit or miss dish. And the key to success is in the moistness of the meat. A dry cut and there's gonna be a lot of leftovers, because even a whole bucket of sauce won't be able to save you. Luckily Tina's knows what it's doing and serves meat that you want to eat. There were a couple dry patches, but when I combined those pieces with the moist rice and sweet plantains, along with the bonus onions and some green sauce, the flavor was still great. And it was a ton of food!

Look at all that green sauce! On the whole, Tina's is a great reasonably priced option to satisfy any Cuban craving. Both AnnMarie and I recommend it for ordering.

    SeamlessWebber of the Week: Grant

Every Thursday, a different SeamlessWeb customer tells us all about how he or she uses the site. If you pay close attention here you just might learn something. This week we have Grant Ginder, whose first novel, This is How it Starts, was just published by Simon & Schuster. In addition to being a published author, Grant is a SeamlessWeb addict.

    Name: Grant Ginder

    Age: 26

Occupation: Author of the novel This is How it Starts/Center for American Progress Speechwriter

How and When Did You Discover SeamlessWeb? I had dabbled with it while I was living in DC, but I really started considering it a religion when I moved to New York last July.

Where Do You Use SW? The more appropriate question here is where don't I use SW.

Favorite Kind of Food: I suppose I should list some kind of fancy, exotic cuisine here, but if I'm going to be truthful I've got to say chocolate milkshakes and mozzarella sticks.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Brussel sprouts...sorry, mom.

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? Feeling like the person on the other end of the line is breaking up with me when s/he can't give me a reservation.

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? Ritz Diner, Moonstruck Diner (I'm a big diner fan and they both have solid mozzarella sticks and milkshakes, not to mention great burgers), Taksim (go with the hummus, falafel, and chicken shish kebab entree), anywhere that delivers past 10 PM.

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? An interview I did with New York magazine's Daily Intel for the release of This is How it Starts. Though, in that case, I'm pretty sure I just came across as 1) being obsessed with my roommate; and 2) having an unhealthy relationship with Ambien.

Favorite Celebrity Chef? Tom Colicchio. He's got some of the best restaurants in the city, and he employs my roommate (maybe I really am obsessed with her).

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? Thundercats. Hands down.

What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? The ability to turn my fingers into mozzarella sticks which regenerate themselves. (Ed: This immediately made me think of Salad Fingers.)

In the Past Year, What's the Latest You've Stayed Up and Why? 6, maybe 7 AM? I'm guessing there was something awesome being pitched on the Home Shopping Network. (Ed: Maybe one of these great items?)

Plans for Tonight? Ordering from SW and watching reruns of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

    Today's Order: Pera

    Perfect Presentation from PeraThe Order:

With AnnMarie away again, our reliable supersub Alyson stepped right up to the plate (zing!) for lunch today. While scrolling through the long list of potential restaurants, I noticed Pera and immediately stopped. We had a winner for three reasons:

    1. Being so close to our office, Pera is one of those restaurants that people here always pass by and want to try, but never do.
    2. I saw ads for Pera on the sides of buses around New York this winter. That was probably a pretty expensive venture, so I want to make sure they get some ROI.
    3. I had a delicious meal at Pera and wanted to see if the delivery was as good.

Once we chose Pera, it was easy to choose two of their most popular dishes for lunch. I went with The Lamburger and Alyson chose the Pera Twists with Chicken. We both ordered Mediterranean fries instead of the side salad.

    The Meal:

This was one of the best delivery meals I've had in a long time. Alyson wasn't quite as effusive in her praise and ended up with a case of lunch envy, but let's break it down:

The meal came right on time and impeccably packaged with high end plastic silverware and neat containers for each sandwich. Plus there were plates, napkins, and ketchup for the fries! As for the food itself, The Lamburger was a triumph in just about every way. The house baked bagel-esque roll was soft and flavorful, the lamb was wonderfully spiced, and the stuffings (feta, olives, tomato) were the perfect extras. And it was huge, so I was plenty full afterwards.

Now that's what I call a sandwich!Alyson's Chicken Pera Twists also had high quality, moist, and delectable meat, but didn't wow her in the same way The Lamburger wowed me. She would have liked some sort sauce to give it put it over the hump from good to great. However, we both agreed that the fries were among the best we've eaten. Beautifully seasoned and the just the right crispiness, these are a must to include in any order from Pera.

There were a lot more fries than you see here...although not by the end of the meal...Pera is clearly a high-end establishment that completely deserves its five-star rating on SeamlessWeb. The sandwiches are a little more expensive than most usual lunches, but certainly more than worth it if you want to treat yourself to something special!

FYI - We're located near Bryant Park in case you want to try Pera for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders!

    SeamlessWebber of the Week: Zuki

Every Thursday, a different SeamlessWeb customer tells us all about how he or she uses the site. If you pay close attention here you just might learn something. This week, we have a very special fan from the animal kingdom who shows us that SeamlessWeb isn't just for humans anymore.

Name: Kafka Suzuki (you can call me Zuki)

    Age: 6 months

Occupation: Internet fur-fameball intent on destroying print media.

    SeamlessWeb User Since: BIRTH

Where Do You Use SW? Crate, work, dog park - anywhere really.

Favorite Kind of Food: Thai, Thai, Thai. I will "sit," "beg," and "play drugged" for even a small bit of noodle delicacies.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Chocolate (IT KILLS!)

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? The dial buttons.

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? The tofu pad see yew (thick noodles stir-fried in a savory black bean sauce) from Tai Thai has a subtle, sweet kick...and bonus points, ladies: it's lighter on oil than other eateries.

When it comes to kosher food, I'm a sucker (nay, a sniffer!) for salty Middle Eastern food, like the falafel and eggplant sandwich from Ashkara on the LES. Do yourself a favor and order it with extra hummus and amba sauce.

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? A fan started a fake Twitter account. That's how you know you made it.

Favorite Celebrity Chef? Despite her unfortunate name - Cat Cora of Iron Chef. She makes other chefs look like chew-toys.

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? With a nod to my namesake, I'd have to say "Garfield minus Garfield."

Plans for Tonight? Waiting for my owner to stop watching the latest Rihanna video so I can go out and play with our neighbor's hot beagle! Woof, indeed.

    Today's Order: Pizza 33

    The Order:

If you've ever been out in Murray Hill, you've probably been to Pizza 33 for a late-night slice. It's a well-known fact that they've introduced more frat boys to fresh mozzarella than any Italian deli in New Jersey. Admittedly though, they make a mean Margherita slice with that fresh mozzarella, so the late-night lines are deserved. This afternoon, AnnMarie and I set out to see if we could say the same about a mid-afternoon pie. After a little back and forth (deciding on pizza toppings is never easy), we settled on the Special 33 Pizza, featuring fresh mozzarella, tomato, arugula, prosciutto, and Gaeta olives.

    The Meal:

We ordered a large pie and when the pizza arrived, there was a box and only a box. No bags, no plates, no utensils. I have to admit that I was impressed by the minimalism and eco-friendliness of it, even if it did strike me as a bit strange.

Simple, efficient deliveryWhen we opened up the box, the pizza was bursting with colorful ingredients and looked delicious. But once we started eating it, a couple of chinks quickly showed up in the Pizza 33 armor. To begin with, the bottom of each slice was a bit soggy and wouldn't stay together. Maybe it was too many toppings or maybe it was sitting in the box too long, but it's never a good sign when the bottom falls out of your slice. The other issue was that the prosciutto simply wasn't all that high quality. It was a little rubbery and lacking the flavor of better meat.

Not quite as good as it looksOn the plus side, the base of the pizza, essentially the Margherita with arugula instead of basil, was great and, along with the olives, this ensured that we still had a tasty lunch. In terms of value, the pizza was too expensive for not enough food and I'd recommend just getting the Margherita pizza instead next time. Stick to the basics at Pizza 33 and it'll pay off.

FYI - We're located near Bryant Park in case you want to try Pizza 33 for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders! Pizza 33 also has locations in Chelsea and Greenwich Village.

    SeamlessWebber of the Week: Ali

Every Thursday, a different SeamlessWeb customer tells us all about how he or she uses the site. If you pay close attention here you just might learn something. This week we have Ali, an avid user who is looking for the best wedges with sour cream and sweet chili this side of Sydney.

    Name: Ali

    Age: 24

Occupation: Advertising Coordinator by day, SeamlessWeb enthusiast by night

    SeamlessWeb User Since: Fall 2007

Where Do You Use SW? Home, Work, and Mobile (I suggest ordering from the mobile app at night; friends are always grateful when I order from the cab and have pizza waiting at the apartment for us after a night out)

Favorite Kind of Food: Wedges with Sour Cream and Sweet Chili - This is all I ate when I was studying abroad in Australia. If anyone knows of a restaurant on SeamlessWeb that serves them I would be forever grateful. (Ed: I'm not sure about Seamless, but offline, you can check out The Australian in Midtown.)

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Clams or Mushrooms - They scare me. (Ed: So you wouldn't want to have slices of this on your pizza?)

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? I always order Chicken and Broccoli with Wonton Soup from Chopsticks House and I love the Rock 'N Roll from Aji (it tastes like chicken fingers). I am also a huge fan of Chop't. My friend just introduced me to their online ordering website and I am addicted. But since you guys designed the site, I'm not a SeamlessWeb traitor!

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? When the place is so loud that you have to repeat your order 10 times, including your credit card info! That and I'm lazy.

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? While I was in Australia, I starred in a YouTube video that involved me impersonating a kangaroo. It had huge ratings...amongst my friends.

Favorite Celebrity Chef? Jacques Leonardi from Jacques-Imo's in New Orleans. He is a celebrity in NOLA and makes the best cornbread in the world.

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? I'll give you three: Ducktales, Captain Planet, and Doug. I always wanted to be Patty Mayonnaise. (Ed: I always wanted to be Scrooge McDuck.)

Plans for Tonight? I will be on a plane en route to Italy for vacation with my family!
