It was getting late for lunch and I had just tweeted about it, so after a quick chat (Me: Wanna have Thai food? AnnMarie: Sure) Lemongrass Grill became our dining decision. AnnMarie ordered Pad See You noodles, or as they call it "Fun in Black", and I opted for the very similar La(r) Nard, or as they call it, Noodle Nana. Really love those names.

The Meal:

AnnMarie did the honors of picking up our order and had no problems. When she got back to the office and I took my dish out of the bag, I was suprised to see that it was packaged like a soup. I definitely hadn't realized that was the case when I ordered it, but I just emptied it out into a bowl and quickly got over the shock. That said, had I known what I was getting into, I probably would have ordered differently. Not to say that my Noodle Nana with beef was bad, just that it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. The noodles and beef were both decent and I liked the Chinese broccoli. I just didn't get much benefit out of the soup aspect of the dish and would have preferred simply the ingredients and a sauce.

Soup, again? As for AnnMarie, she liked the idea of Pad See You (this was her first time ordering it), but didn't love this version. Her Fun in Black featured chicken that was good and there was plenty of it, and same with the noodles. Problem was it just lacked that special something to put it over the top. She'll keep looking though.

Where's the beef? Oh yeah, AnnMarie ordered chicken.Overall, our meal from Lemongrass Grill was solid, but unspectacular. It filled us up and made us satisfied, but wasn't the kind of food that had us screaming more.

It had been awhile since we had a good old-fashioned Japanese lunch special, so we turned to a SeamlessWeb classic: Hakata Grill. AnnMarie and I liked the fact that they had a lot of interesting and different bento boxes, so we both chose one. Since I usually order a two or three roll maki lunch special during the week, I opted for the Salmon & Tuna Box Lunch. It came with four pieces of sushi (two of each fish) and I chose a California roll, asparagus, seaweed salad, and shumai to go with it. AnnMarie decided to skip sushi and chose the Grilled Tofu Bento Lunch Special. She got it with brown rice and four sides (!), selecting assorted greens, seaweed salad, spinach, and tamago. A veritable vegetarian feast.

The Meal:

The food took a little longer to arrive than we would have liked, but once it got here, it was nicely packaged and each bento box looked lovely. I decided to treat my seaweed salad, shumai, and California roll as appetizers, saving the sushi as the main course and the asparagus as a side. The seaweed salad was solid and standard, the shumai tasted good too, and the California roll was a nice palate cleanser. The pieces of tuna and salmon were large and flavorful. They seemed fresh and were definitely high quality. My only issue was that the asparagus was a little too smoky from what I assume was some sort of grill.

View from aboveAnnMarie thought her tofu was great and loved the sauce, along with the large portion size. She also really liked the tamago (about which she learned a lot from Wikipedia!) and the fact that she had so many options.

View from above, part 2, featuring tofuHakata Grill is a good choice when you want to get out of a maki lunch special rut. With a plethora of interesting bento box combinations and a lot of freedom in your selection, you could order here all the time and never have the same thing twice.

How and When Did You Discover SeamlessWeb? SeamlessWeb discovered me in a fur company casting call back around 1954. I was modeling professionally in Manhattan at the time, having just come home to the States after a grand tour of Italy, and SeamlessWeb, who was then on staff at the fur company as a junior copywriter, sent me the loveliest mink coat after the shoot. We were married within the year.

Where Do You Use SW? It is all very careless and confused. We are careless people, SeamlessWeb and me—we smash up things and creatures and then retreat back into our money or our vast carelessness, or whatever it is that keeps us together, and let other people clean up the mess we have made.

Favorite Kind of Food: Mint chocolate chip ice cream (the chocolate is from Kells' eponymous Factory).

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Not sure. Maybe American cheese? My least favorite food policy is the kind that keeps supermarket owners and employees out of "food deserts" in many parts of this city. Please support UFCW Local 1500 in its efforts to add good food and good job standards to New York City's Food Retail Expansion to Support Health (FRESH).

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? Ethos in Murray Hill. I love a restaurant chain that wears its spirit and values system in its name. I also like free pita bread and pastry. (Ed: We love Ethos too!)

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? They only ever call me back when they need a favor.

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? Arianna Huffington invited me to be one of her first Facebook friends. (Ed: How long did she wait before inviting you to contribute on HuffPo?)

Favorite Celebrity Chef? Did you know that Jack Kerouac died of a brain hemorrhage while he was watching The Galloping Gourmet? Coolio. (Ed: The Kerouac story may be apocryphal!)

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? Tony Kornheiser

What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? Heavy lifting

In the Past Year, What's the Latest You've Stayed Up and Why? I stayed up for about 40 hours over one weekend in May (concert here, brother's college graduation in the Midwest). America is a pageant, people! Don't miss out!

Plans for Tonight? Supercalifragilistic-ketoacidosis. I should probably study. (Ed: Re: ketoacidosis, if you don't know, now you know.)

While I miss the idea, value, and deliciousness of 3-course meals for lunch from Delivery Week, I don't miss the guilty feeling I got when I couldn't finish my meal in one sitting. I'm just not a big leftovers guy, so to get back in the saddle today, AnnMarie and I ordered Italian. I am a big carbs guy. The restaurant? Dolcino Trattoria Toscana. I liked their menu of pasta standbys and selected the Rigatoni Siciliana (with fresh tomatoes, eggplant, and ricotta cheese). AnnMarie chose the Rigatoni Buttero (with peas, sweet and hot Italian sausage, and a touch of cream) and we determined to let the best rigatoni win.

The Meal:

When we opened the bag, we were greeted with a treat. In addition to our pastas, we got what may have been a variation of eggplant caponata, along with two big, soft pieces of bread. A lovely start to the meal. The eggplant made for a perfect topping to the bread and we were on our way. My rigatoni was loaded with more cheese than I expected, but it was very good. I tried to combine as many bites as I could with all the ingredients and would definitely order it again. It was a large portion, but one I was able to finish off pretty easily.

Up close and personal with a whole lot of ricottaAnnMarie enjoyed her lunch very much. The sausage was ground up, the peas hit the spot, and the cream was light and just right. Add some perfectly cooked al dente pasta and the recipe for success was complete. The generous portion even ended up being enough for two meals!

Can you see the extra peas? The rigatoni competition ended in a draw this time so I think we just have to try again and we think that you should too.
Name: Rich

Age: 26

Occupation: I blog, I tweet, I eat (I also contribute to Rap Exegesis)

How and When Did You Discover SeamlessWeb? The year's '07 and my fridge is barren/Got no job, watchin' bios of Hank Aaron/I got two choices to order my food/Pick up the phone, which I wanna avoid/Or try this new service that might get me employed (Ed: Got 99 Problems, but ordering food ain't one.)

Where Do You Use SW? Starts with "E" and ends with "verywhere"

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything over rice, pasta with a meat ragout, Almas caviar, whatever else I mention every week

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Head cheese

Favorite Place(s) to Order From on SW? Szechuan Gourmet (Double Cooked Sliced Pork Belly), Mooncake Foods (Sliced Steak Plate/Shanghai Home-Style Short Ribs), Pera Mediterranean Brasserie (The Lamburger), Kanoyama (Sushi Special)

Least Favorite Thing About Calling Restaurants? I recently called a restaurant to pick up food in Williamsburg (I know, I know) and was put on hold. After 45 seconds I hung up and called again. Busy. After 5 minutes I called again. Busy. I took the subway and called for the last time 15 minutes later. Busy. (Ed: I called multiple times in each instance, making it clear to me that the person had simply put me on hold forever.)

Closest Previous Brush with Internet Fame? I was featured as Midtown Lunch'er of the Week in January 2009. Did I mention that I also contribute to Rap Exegesis? It's kind of a big deal. (Ed: As you can see, those "anything over rice" and "meat ragout" answers haven't changed all year. Maybe 2010 will be the year that I finally go carbo-neutral? Doubtful.)

Favorite Celebrity Chef? Gotta be Eric Ripert. Have you ever heard this guy talk? I'd like him more, but I'm too scared that he would steal my (non-existent) girlfriend. (Ed: I hear he's a pretty good chef also.)

Favorite Cartoon Growing Up? All the usuals (He-Man, Transformers, TMNT, Thundercats, etc...), plus did anyone else ever watch Silverhawks? That "partly metal, partly real" line is really deep.

What Superpower Do You Wish You Had? The ability to focus on a single task for more than 30 seconds at a time.

In the Past Year, What's the Latest You've Stayed Up and Why? I kicked it all night in the Bairro Alto in Lisbon because I had a 7 AM flight back to New York, via Amsterdam, where I had an 8-hour layover. My only sleep was on the plane.

Plans for Tonight? Trying to explain what it means when Jay-Z says, "Now when I bring the Nets, I'm the black Branch Rickey."
